Staph superbug may be infecting patients

A report states that "At least 30,000 hospital patient may have the super bug at any given time, accordint to a survey released Monday by the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemionlogy.

The estimate is about 10 times the rate that some health offcials had previously estimated.

The potentially fatal germ, which is spread by touch, typically thrives in health care settings were people have open wounds. But in recent years, "community-associated" outbreaks have occured amoung prisones, children and atheletes, with the germ spreading through skin contact or sweat, such as towels.
