How bad has the economy hurt you?
Like every one else the economy down turn has really hurt me. I was lucky to learn at 27 I could buy one (1) share of stock at a time and I bought stock in my local utility company. It wasn't that I knew any thing about investing but I was pissed off at the utility company and I figured if I had to pay them: they were going to pay me back. I also started an IRA at the same time with $25.00 a month straight from my checking account so I didn't have to worry about it. In 1984 the State Court of Appeals heard a case between pension contributees and the employer. The court ruled we could take our money out and invested it ourselves since it was taken out after taxes. I chose to do that and started my carrear in investing and continued while working. I had a good paying job and was able to invest quiet a bit of money and was doing very well. Then I got hit by a drunk driver and the money stopped comming in. I was given a medical retirement and social security retirement, which was good, but I was only 47 when I retired: I don't get squat. Then I got divorced and lost half of every thing I had. So my investments are what kept me going. I've seen only 2 sp's this year and that will be the extent of what I'll be able to do this year. I, like a lot other people have had hopes that the stock market would be on the way to recovery but it's going to be a while but I hope next year is better.Comments
