I have contacted the admin of this site and asked for a comment.
Do you know other sites having such a "special" philosophy?

Foreign prostitutes being targeted by extortion gang at hotel disco

Extortion is also a big business and an entrenched part of the trade in sleaze that is flourishing in the Sukhumvit area of Bangkok late at night.

The main targets of the gangs are the many foreign prostitutes who ply their trade on the street and in the hotels around the lower end of Sukhumvit Road.
One particular gang specialising in extorting money from the foreign prostitutes is based in the discotheque of a medium-sized hotel in Soi 3.

The disco is frequented mainly by Iranian and Arab men and about 50 foreign prostitutes, mostly from Russia and Uzbekistan, who go there every night looking for customers.

This was revealed to Spectrum during a recent interview with a woman known only as Vazira, a freelance prostitute from Uzbekistan, and collaborated by her Russian friends. Several Thai prostitutes working in the area also confirmed the existence of the gang as well as other gangs.

They said most of the gang members come from Iran, Pakistan and Africa and are involved in a variety of crimes.

According to Ms Vazira, one of these gangs extorting money from the foreign prostitutes is led by a Syrian man who calls himself Basm. His accomplice and countryman Mahmood also works in the disco. The other members of his gang are from Iran and Pakistan. They target the foreign prostitutes working at the disco.

Ms Vazira said that prostitutes who had Thai pimps, who gave them protection and assistance if they were arrested, were not targetted by the extortionists.

"The gang will do some background checking of a potential target before making an approach. They are very careful not to get into trouble with Thai people," Ms Vazira said before going on to describe what happened to her and many of the other girls who work at the disco and are forced to pay protection money to Basm.

"I had been going to that particular discotheque almost every night for several years and never had any problems until a few days ago when I was walking back to my apartment in Soi 5 at around 4am - after having one customer and returning to the club.

"Basm followed me, grabbed my arm outside the hotel and said: 'Hey, look at me. Sometimes when I see you in the club, I want to put you in jail,' he said in bad English. I answered: 'Why? Anyone can come to the disco. What is the problem? I don't understand you.'

"He replied: 'I want some money from you. If you refuse then you cannot work there anymore.'

"I said I don't have money to pay you. I am sending almost everything I make to my parents and children back home every morning, and he said: 'I don't care what you say, I want money.' Then I left, frightened of what will happen," Ms Vazira said.

"I told my friends about this incident and they said they also heard about Basm from other girls. They told me to pay, otherwise I wouldn't be able to work and he could cause me some trouble as well.

"The first time he didn't say how much money he wanted me to pay, but two days later he approached me again, this time at the entrance to the disco. He told me to pay him 20,000 Baht every month, otherwise I couldn't enter. I would then lose my main income because I can make money there from the Iranians because I speak their language. They usually pay well and don't cause trouble. There is no other place like it in the area.

"I am sure that before Basm approached me he knew I had no pimp and I was making good money, otherwise he wouldn't ask for so much. That's why he picked on me. Maybe someone else was watching me all the time."

Ms Vazira said Basm is about 23, slim and dark. She had seen him in the disco for a couple of months, but didn't talk to him.

"Sometimes when he passed by, he only said to me 'how are you', as he did with the other girls.

"He is very friendly with Mr Kew, who is the Thai owner. I saw them often talking to each other.

"My friend told me that Kew pays Basm a salary and rent for his apartment in Soi 1, which he shares with Mahmood. Basm usually walks back home.

"When I saw Basm the first time, I knew he is not a good person. Why did I know? I was a nurse and used to work at the police hospital in Tashkent in Uzbekistan. We treated many drug addicts there, so I know everything about them, like what the symptoms are, what they look like and how they behave.

"Basm has all the symptoms. He also drinks whiskey and tequila. My friends told me Basm is indeed a drug addict and they are all afraid of him. He is a dangerous man.

"I saw Kew sitting and drinking with four to five Thai men in his club. The Thais were not looking for girls, only drinking, and then they left. I have been coming and going here for four years, so I know they must be policemen or Thai officials. Some wore safari jackets and black boots. I see Basm talking to them some time, but not for too long.

"I am afraid of him, especially when I walk back home. Maybe someone will hit me. I would like to call the police to check his room. Maybe he has some drugs there. I told my friends about this and asked them if they know some policemen who could search his apartment for drugs."

Ms Vazira did not say if she had paid Basm or intended to pay him, but her friends have now raised fears for her safety. Her mobile has now been switched off for days and searching for her proved fruitless.

Her friends haven't seen her for many days since she spoke to Spectrum. They are worried about her.

Marriott to Erase Web Comment on Thai Prostitutes

BANGKOK (Reuters) - U.S.-based hotel chain Marriott International Inc said on Friday it would delete a dress code tip on its Web site which links women wearing blouses and shorts in Thailand to prostitutes.

One of the pages in the www.marriot.com site advising the dress code in Thailand says: "No Thai men wear shorts. Among women, only prostitutes wear sleeveless blouses and/or shorts."

Paveena Hongsakul, member of parliament of an opposition party, told Reuters the comment was an affront to Thai women and she would submit a letter urging the hotel to apologize and change the message.

"This is unacceptable. They've made it sounds like all Thai women are
prostitutes. They must change the wording and make an apology," Paveena said.

Jeff Crowe, marketing director of the J.W. Marriott Hotel in Bangkok, told
Reuters the hotel was sorry about what happened and would change the content "as quickly as possible."

"Clearly that is inaccurate and we've got to get it fixed immediately," he said.

This special "dress code" is a permanent topic among five star hotels in Thailand. Why do the ladies dress like this? May be they brainlessly copy it or continue what they have been ordered in bars and brothels before, where such a dress code is a rule, often.

In my opinion this feature is justified, only, if hobbyists have the possibility to delete such a reference given by a provider or even can reject this feature completely. It should be up to a hobbyist, if he wants to have such a reference or not.

Why?
It is the hobbyist revealing his identity by introducing himself forwarding his real name and other personal data. The provider prefers staying anonymous for safety reasons.
It is the hobbyist who is making an advance payment, what is a payment method which is an exception.
It is the risk of the hobbyist to be tricked by a provider who forwarded incorrect idealising informations about her personality and services.
Discretion is very important for hobbyists, that is why there should not be offered a further possibility to blackmail a client.

I think up to now, there is not even the possibility to comment a (negative) reference from hobbyist side.
I know about a member here who has obviously to accept two bad provider references. One of it given by a provider whom he has never met.

Dormitory at Rajah Hotel in Bangkok is the main place, where Russian and former CIS sex workers are housed in by the mafia rackets.

Thai authorities are although very actively trying to stop such massive arrival of East European sex workers, by putting tougher rules in issuing visa from its Tashkent and other consulates in the East European countries, organized mafia have succeeded in finding a loop hole in finally arranging visa for the racket ladies thus enabling them in visiting Thailand with 3 month´s tourist visa.

It is learnt that, Russian mafias collect these women from respective countries under a contract of paying US$ 10,000 to the mafia racket for visa, ticket and other expenses within the 3 month´s stay of these sex workers in Thailand. If the sex workers are unwilling to enter into such contracts, they also can manage a Thai visa through the mafia network from the Istanbul consulate of the Thai embassy against a payment of US$ 1500 for each of the 3 month´s tourist visa.

It is learnt that, Thai consulate in Istanbul and other capitals of East European countries are very strict in issuing any visa to the suspected females. Due to such ´obstacles´, both the sex workers and their mafia ring prefer Istanbul as an alternative place for getting the visa.

In Thailand, even few years back, while East European sex workers were charging US$ 200 for every hour, due to increased number of arrivals of such sex workers in Thailand, now a days, they even agree to accompany a customer just for US$ 50 per hour. In some cases, the amount even goes below US$ 50. The reason behind such tendency is that, each of the sex workers are determined in cashing more than US$ 10,000 in a month, in order to pay back their debts with the Russian mafia as well make some handsome amount for their return to homeland, and prepare for the next trip back to Thailand. In most cases, each of the sex workers are making 2-3 trips to Thailand in a year.

It was already warned by World Health Organization that, percentage of HIV positive within sex workers in East Europe is above alarming level. It is quite understood that, increased number of East European ladies in Thailand is not only expanding the activities of Russian-Thai mafias, but also leaving a serious threat of HIV infection amongst the locals and overseas tourists. It may be mentioned here that, Thailand witnesses tourist high season from end October to mid March. During this time, a few hundred thousand foreigners arrive in Thailand, from European and American destinations for holidaying.

I am in hotel business and that is why I worked about five years in Thailand.
I agree with Doc77, that there is no reason for the gentleman to feel awkward.
In hotels, if there is some gossip among employees, then it is about the lady.
Up to now it is normally easy for persons behind a reception desk to identify a lady being a professional or not ("escort uniform" for ex.).
Then it is not necessary having the lady's ID card and find out that its number is registered several times already having joined/visited different men.

I have reflected about possible criteria for this for a short moment.
If I had posted my proposals, I would have been very sarcastic.
