Sex toys are banned in Thailand and there are no stores selling it openly. Sometimes you can find them at night near Patpong where touts selling it under tables or take you back in stores. Singapore has many shops or just buy it in Europe.

The weekend market sells certain items as does the night market patopng area although the quality is questionable. There is boutique sexy in Naklua, Pattaya, and christy ( check her bdsm website ) sells good quality sex toys as well as fetish wear, also I believe BAR BAR will open a boutique soon, although rumour has it that sex toys and fetish wear can be obtained there.

Can you tell us why the government has banned sex toys? Is it something to do with religion? The official status: “It is illegal to open a sex shop in Phuket or anywhere else in Thailand. Such shops are not congruent with Thai morals or Thai law.” Monday, September 19, 2005 Pol Col Paween Pongsirin, Superintendent of Phuket City Police Station. “It is illegal to to buy or sell sex toys, or open a sex shop, in Thailand. Hi Kotikkk,
Do you know about the saving face concept? The concept of saving face Thai people have a refined sense of public image and believe strongly in the concept of saving face. That is, they will go to great lengths to avoid confrontation and endeavour not to embarrass either themselves or other people. The ideal face saver does not bring up negative topics in conversation, or talk in an argumentative, judgemental or aggressive manner. Raising your voice or losing your temper will never be constructive in Thailand. It will result in loss of face for everyone involved, and you may be ignored as a result. You may notice Thai people smiling in the face of another’s misfortune. This is not a sign of callousness, but an attempt to save face for the person suffering misfortune. Saving face is the major source of the famous Thai smile. It is the best possible face to ease almost any situation. To talk about sex was and still is taboo to certain extent. |

Buddhist beliefs contribute significantly to what is considered acceptable behavior in Thai society, contributing to a solid set of social mores that are followed by the majority of its members. Conservatism and discretion are at the heart of these mores, dictating that individuals shy away from extremes of behavior, less risk offending others.
Public displays of sexual affection are not acceptable in Thailand, although this may be changing with the younger generation in some areas. Thai people are extremely offended by public nudity Thai people are modest in this respect. |

At the beach, the Thai dress code is almost Victorian. Most Thais are shocked by men walking around wearing only a speedo. There is also the same reaction for the foreign ladies who go swimming or sunbathe topless. For Thai people, they prefer to go swimming in all their clothes. This is partly due to their aversion to getting a tan, but it is more to do with their level of self-decency. In Thailand dark skin equals to farmers and you see people use umbrellas to cover themselves from the sun. Thai people on the beach are always under shades. |
