Yes generally Phuket,Krabi and Koh Samui are a little more expensive than the beach resorts nearby Bangkok,but a nice place can be found for a lower price in Phuket town.The south is better place for beaches.

A couple of my close friends amused their honeymoon somewhere there. It wasn't the very Phuket, it was one of many small islands not very far, where the sea is the cleanest in Thailand as they said. There was almost no people and civilization. :)

Hi,yes some islands have very clear water,i think maybe your friends went the similan islands,also koh phi phi very nice and some islands around Krabi are very nice and nearly deserted.Did anyone hear about the uk honeymoon couple murdered on Antigua?very bad.I not think a place like there have problem crime.

An act of traditional caribbean criminality... I hope the situation in Thailand is not so sad. I never visited Thailand, only planning.

I did not think it was dangerous place,I always think was nice quiet islands.There have been instances of when tourist have been victim of crime here in Thailand,a young girl was rape and murder on lamai beach in Koh Samui a few year ago,also a tourist was shot dead in Kanchanaburi in a row with Thai man who try to get his girlfriend,but generally most place are safe here.There are always some problems everywhere.I was robbed in a taxi who close door so i can not get out and then get knife and take all money and mobile phone,i think i was going get hurt but he take my things and push me out of taxi and drive away.Now i use motorbike taxi who I know.I have hear many stories of people go with girls they meet on street or in some bar and the tourist has wake up 2 days later and everything was stolen from room.This was the big problem before in Pattaya..now police have crack down on this.Some lady used to put sleeping drug on she nipple,when customer suck would be asleep and the girl would robbed him.There was a few death too i think but this was before,it was a gang was work Pattaya,police catch already.So be carefull who take back room here you guys!!!! I hear story from around many place from friends,a us man who my friends bofriend said he was travel europe recently and say Amsterdam was very safe but he was shocked by London and he not feel safe there which surprise me.

Hi,must say thannks to everyone for their advice on buying a property in Thailand.I have bought in Pattaya for around 1 million baht.I been to the caribbean and it is not too safe,London as has been mentioned is no better now,that and the huge cost of living there I have decided to move to Thailand.Thanks for all the replies..

it was well know about drug on nipple.Hope you happy Peter.I want ask that many foreign people live Thailand,i want to ask how can afford it when not work Thailand,i hope you not mind it always something i think about,not you but many people many young and not old enough retire.

Anyway I've never heard about such a way. My congratulations also, Peter. It would be good if you tell something about your new house - how large, is it far from sea etc.
But I wonder who mentions London as something not better than Caribes! Have they really visited them both?

London is not so tiny and safe as many people think. Not like Amsterdam but not a piece of paradise.
And if say about the climate then Thailand must be closer to paradise in any case.
Good that those gangsters have been busted in Thailand. However there are other smart guys awaiting the police. Let them wait a bit, heh!

I born and brought up in London,lived here all my life but time to leave..170 plus murders this year so far,6 people stabbed to death in 1 day,gangs of youths hanging around street corners,energy bills going up 80 per cent,time to leave just had enough of the place.I got the idea from a friend who married a Thai national who he met in Chaing Mai some years ago,they married he applied for a visa to bring her back but was refused.He sold his property invested the money and has the interest sent to Thailand.That is exactly what I am going to do,that's how I am going to afford it Bam,I cannot speak for other people but that's what I have decided to do.I been to the caribbean once,really nice place but we were told to not venture out of the hotel compound.We did and didn't have any problems.The house in Thailand is small,2 bedroom,cost about 1 million baht,but it is fine for me.I am not sorry to leave London,I was born and brought up here but now i feel better to leave.The house about 10 minutes by taxi or motorbike from the sea, great for me.

I am sure your house is very tiny Peter. But what is 1 million bahts in dollars or euros?

Thanks Peter,i always did think where money come from for foreign people live Thailand,i think good idea that you do this if was not happy too much in UK and i hope you happy in Thailand too and can get the nice place for money you pay too,if like the life here more then i think it good what you do and hope you happy here.

At least Thailand in known as a "cheap" country but London is one of the most expensive cities in the world with very high prices in reality.
