I found a good Internet reference on US Federal and State Prostitution laws.
Prostitution is illegal in the United States with the exception of Rhode Island and 11 Nevada counties. The information was last updated Oct. 23, 2008. There is a table of links which when you click on the hyperlinked titles, states, and counties will bring up the full text of each law. All escorts and persons looking to engage in escorting should do their due diligence and review and be familiar with the specific laws of their area. The state law summary includes the crime classification and penalties for prostitutes, customers, pimps and brothel owners. The website itself is interesting because it presents in a simple, nonpartisan pro-con format, responses to the core question "Should prostitution be legal?" A companion reference is this comprehensive guide to dealing with police encounters provided by Sin City Alternative Professionals Association (SCAPA-LV) about how to conduct yourself with LE (Law Enforcement). It is highly recommended that you read this thoroughly because foreknowledge is forearmed! -------------------- An elegant courtesan among Calgary escorts, providing vip executive escort companionship to business travelers. I have tried to research this topic in both Oregon and New York, the two states I operate in. Can't find a lot. I make it a point to not advertise sexual services as an escort, and as a Professional Domme. I'm nervous, too about mentioning fetishes. The bottom line is that I do not want any trouble from any legal enforcement entity. Thanks for this helpful information.

As a citizen of a country where prostitution is legal I do not know what I should think about the situation in the USA.
Is it hypocritical because pretension and reality are so different? Is it anarchical because the US Americans simply ignore their laws and flee into a parallel society? What is it? |

Above all it is plain stupidity! They already tried this "social experiment" with prohibition. It didn't stop people drinking but created strong organized crime syndicates around the alkohol trade. So, eventually they backed off. But the strong mafia remained - just started controlling prostitution and drugs. |

Generalize it. Name any country in the world where there isn't some form of hypocrisy between Laws and citizen behavior. It's not even hypocrisy or stupidity. It's human behavior.

Interesting! That means we are all little anarchists and/or hypocrites? ;) Are you talking about the US American politician who spends his Thursday evenings with a call girl and preaches against prostitution in his parish three days later? I do not know, if it can be generalized easily. In my opinion it is a question of "balls". They do not have the balls to stand for this what they are. They follow absurd and old dogma and know well that they are hypocrites. This can be generalized. It is a question of "having balls", isn't it. In my eyes, it is a sign of personal cowardice to easily say that this is normal, because it is human behaviour. |

Very interesting read and a very good post! Although many of us are outside the united states, it is interesting to see the climate there and what to consider for those that travel there. Sounds like it may be best to simply be a tourist if you feel a need to visit. I am sometimes saddened by what happens in America. Many of my American friends tell me that America is the most free country in the World, though everybody would say good things about their country, of course. It may be that the laws attempt freedom, but religious and social pressures make it less free in reality.....I'm really not sure.
